COVID Protection Framework

Information for staff returning to campus in 2022.

Orange

Government guidelines at the Orange setting of the COVID protection framework are generally less restrictive than at Red, however the University has specific requirements around vaccinations. Please appraise yourself with the University’s COVID Protection Framework Plan and the requirements for coming onto campus.

Summer School and Quarter One teaching in 2022 will take place on campus, regardless of the traffic light setting.

Refer to the general learning and teaching policy settings for all of 2022.

Vaccination Declaration Portal

The University’s Vaccination Declaration Portal is our online system for verifying vaccination status. Staff are required to upload their Vaccine Pass to the portal.

FAQs

Are teachers expected to enforce the vaccination policy?

Staff are encouraged to remind students of the University’s COVID-19 Vaccination and Testing Policy and the Government’s public health order, and refer students to these if they are met with resistance. However, staff are not expected to enforce the policy if students refuse to comply, but infringements/incidents should be reported to their head of department.

Is mask-wearing mandatory in class?

In line with the Tertiary Education Commission, and the University’s requirements for coming on to campus, masks are strongly encouraged to be worn indoors and expected where physical distancing is difficult.

Masks are mandated in situations that require a face covering (e.g. retail and food outlets), and these are outlined on the Government website.

Will the Enrolments office still maintain class ‘Sections’ in Canvas?

Yes. There will be both ‘OO’ streams for any students who are offshore, and ‘NZ’ streams for any domestic students who cannot come to campus.

What is the University's response to those with vaccination concerns?

The University held a vaccinations forum with a panel of experts and responded to questions from staff. These questions are addressed on the COVID-19 vaccination policy FAQs page.

Do I still need a back-up plan for pivoting to online teaching?

Yes in case on-campus activities are restricted due to a heightened COVID risk or localised lockdown.

Note: Most tests and exams that would normally have been invigilated on campus will be conducted as non-invigilated, online assessments.
